Heat wave

Category: Season news No comments

To all reps, coaches, convenors:

This week is going to be a week, that we the exec, do not want you to take lightly as all teams have games in this heat wave. Please play smart and have plenty of fluids with you. We will not be cancelling any games.

If the ref decides then that is when that decision is made to cancel.

Please have good dialogue with refs before games to have water breaks (couple of mins)
Note: Our Constitution reads: “Game is Complete and recorded as a Game if you Play 10 mins into the 2nd half.”
This would be a good week to call all your call-ups in to play.

Season intro message from the President

Category: Season news No comments

Hope everybody is doing well and enjoying the start of the 2015 Season. As our first long wk-end is coming to a close and the summer season is opening up, I personally want to thank the League and the Executive for their hard work in making the 2015 Season happen. I sense much enthusiasm and excitement in my walk about through the League.
I would also like to mention that all teams are much improved this year which will make for some good soccer to watch for your team fans.

Continue to promote this game in your circles and encourage the fans to come out and watch especially the young. Let’s continue to be good ambassadors for the game and honouring God, Who gave you the talents to play the game.

Some of you might have seen me coaching already behind the bench for Rockton and I would li...

Apologies for the lack of updates for a few weeks … was annoyed with HaDmin. But I’ve got all the results now, so here you go!

2014 week 2 recap

Category: Season news No comments

What a wet week – and unfortunate for Brant County FC, who had both of their games postponed. As a result, Rockton and the Thunder both were idle this week as well.

In the week 1 recap had predicted that the Week 2 games to watch might be the double-header on Wednesday – because of those postponed games there weren’t too many more games to pick from! The first game between Dundas Assault and York was the season-opener for both, and was a hard fought game with a bit of rain to keep things civil and the scoring low: 1-1 was the final score.

In the second game Waterdown scored four goals for the second game in a row, and although two players from Wentworth FC kept their scoring streaks going (Juan and yours truly) Waterdown was able to thwart the second-half attacks even though they didn’t ha...

2014 week 1 recap

Category: Season news No comments

On Wednesday there was a solid double-header at Cityview.

In game 1 the Waterdown Bulldogs were looking for some revenge against the Thunder because of last year’s final 🙂 They decided that they would carry out this revenge in the best way they know how: score early and score often! Jordan Kerkoff is off to a great start with a hat-trick and may be on the way to another shot at the top goalscorer award (he’s won, or had a share of it, for four of the last five years).

The second game was between Wentworth FC and Rockton. Man, it cooled off as the game went on! Rockton played with a bit shorter of a bench then they typically have in previous years, and Wentworth went up 3-1 until Rockton made it close with about ten minutes to go at 3-2...

2008-2013 stats

Category: Season news No comments

I compiled some stats from 2008 to 2013 to get you guys in the mood for the 2014 season.

Somewhat unsurprising is that the Waterdown Bulldogs really show how much a powerhouse they’ve been in the last six years.

What did surprise me is the almost perfect correlation between goals for and points. Goals against seems to make a very small difference!

2008-2013 stats

2008-2013 chart
Totals – 4.24 goals per game average.
2008 – 13 teams – 21 points needed to make playoffs
2009 – 13 teams – 18 points needed
2010 – 14 teams – 22 points
2011 – 13 teams – 23 points
2012 – 11 teams – 18 points
2013 – 9 teams – 8 points
2014 – 9 teams – ?

The second image shows the points at the end of the regular season for each team through the years. It shows how (in)consistent your team is. Compare Ancaster to Dundas!

The Offside Rule

Category: Rules etc. No comments

So that everyone’s on the same page, here are the exact instructions that the referees have been given regarding offsides.

In the definition of offside position, “nearer to the opponents goal line” means that any part of player head, body or feet is nearer to the opponent’s goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent. THE ARMS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS DEFINITION: arms are not part of the game.

A player is offside if he is nearer his opponent’s goal-line at the ball at the moment the ball is played unless:
1. The player is in his own half of the field of play.
2. There are two of his opponents nearer to their own goal line.
3. The ball last touched an opponent or was last played by him.

The 2013 season kicks off May 8th

Category: Season news No comments

On Wednesday, May 8, 2013 we’ll start the season with a pair of games at City View Park (formerly New City) in Burlington:

Dundas Assault vs. Rockton Blazers (7pm)
Waterdown Bulldogs vs. Wentworth FC (9pm)

Looking forward to seeing a bunch of fans out to celebrate the beginning of a brand new season!
The other interesting change is that playoffs will be best-of-two (most goals); the first game can end in a tie but if the two games are tied it will go to OT or shootouts.

Congratulations to the Dundas Assault

Category: Season news No comments

Dundas won the final on Saturday – congratulations to the Assault as well as to the Cambridge Cobras for making their way to the final.

This is Dundas’ first win as the “Assault” .. if we look back in the history books it’s the first win for a team from Dundas since 1990.

This year’s final was the meeting of two defensive teams, and almost two hundred fans were out to witness some great clean soccer. The Timbits game was a lot of fun, with approximately 20 kids playing – the play ground was a nice touch, eh?

MVP of the game was Dundas’ goalkeeper Dan Aasman. With eight shutouts during the regular season but none yet in the playoffs, he shut the door and allowed his teammates a win with their only goal. Congrats, Dan!

You can have a look at photos of the final here: http://www.facebook...
